MYTHS Palissandro RET Porcelain Tile
MYTHS Palissandro is an Italian porcelain stoneware tile from Gambini’s MYTHS collection, designed to reproduce the elegant linear movement associated with Palissandro natural stone while providing the practical characteristics of porcelain.
Its light neutral surface combines soft white, pale gray and delicate beige-to-taupe movement. Instead of the dramatic dark veining of Calacatta-style marble, Palissandro has a more directional, layered appearance that gives floors and walls a quiet architectural character.
Gambini’s catalog identifies MYTHS as colored-body porcelain stoneware and lists Palissandro alongside Calacatta and Stone Grey. The collection was manufactured in rectified 60×120 cm, 60×60 cm and 30×60 cm formats. An independent European Gambini retailer also identifies the product as Italian-made and lists it for interior and exterior flooring, wall covering and bathrooms.
Appearance & Visual Characteristics
MYTHS Palissandro has a predominantly soft white to very light gray background, crossed by long, subtle gray, cream and warm-beige directional markings. The movement is more linear than a conventional marble pattern, creating the visual impression of a vein-cut natural stone.
This makes the tile particularly useful when a designer wants a natural-stone appearance without making the floor the most visually dominant element in the room.
The result works especially well in modern, transitional, contemporary and soft-luxury interiors. In Houston homes, I would pair it with white oak, light walnut, warm-white cabinetry, greige walls, brushed nickel, champagne bronze or matte-black fixtures.
How Texas Builders and Architects Should Use It
For a Houston custom home, the 24×48 format is particularly attractive across open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas. Running the directional pattern consistently makes the room appear longer and more continuous. For smaller rooms, 24×24 can produce a more balanced layout with less cutting.
Before installation, a contractor should open tiles from multiple boxes and review the pattern distribution. The Palissandro design has directional movement, so tile orientation should be planned rather than installed randomly.
With 24×48 rectified porcelain, substrate flatness is extremely important. Narrow grout lines will magnify lippage if the slab or backer surface is uneven. TCNA also notes that larger tiles require correct mortar coverage and trowel selection, and that movement/control joints need to be respected.
For rectangular large-format layouts, I would generally avoid automatically specifying a 50% brick offset. Tile warpage can make lippage more noticeable where the middle of one tile aligns with the end of another. TCNA notes that some manufacturers recommend offsets no greater than about one-third for large rectangular tiles when warpage may be present.
Bathrooms and Showers
MYTHS Palissandro is particularly strong as a full-height shower-wall tile, bathroom feature wall, tub surround or vanity backsplash.
A luxury bathroom can use 24×48 tiles vertically to reduce horizontal grout lines and emphasize ceiling height. Another effective approach is to continue the same material from the main bathroom floor onto selected walls, creating the appearance of a continuous stone interior.
The tile and grout themselves should never be treated as the waterproofing system. TCNA specifically notes that grout joints are not waterproof; shower construction must rely on the approved substrate/waterproofing assembly beneath the tile.
For a shower floor, I would wait for the exact DCOF/slip information before recommending this specific finish.
Kitchens
On kitchen floors, its quiet veining works especially well with:
white or cream cabinetry, white oak, natural walnut, taupe or greige cabinets, warm quartz countertops, brushed nickel, champagne bronze and matte-black hardware.
For backsplashes, using the larger rectified format vertically or horizontally can create a much more expensive-looking result than a small conventional ceramic tile because there are fewer visible grout divisions.
Commercial Projects
Architects can consider MYTHS Palissandro for reception areas, professional offices, boutiques, hotel guest areas and multifamily interiors where a light natural-stone appearance is desired.
For demanding commercial circulation areas, however, City Stone should obtain the exact abrasion/wear classification, DCOF and technical performance documentation before the material is written into the architectural specification.
